Ever wish you could get to a PC in another room or another part of
town or across the world. Whether it’s to to get at a file that you
didn’t take along, stream media or help someone out with their PC
problems. This article shows you the set up that will let you learn how
to remote control a Windows 8 PC and how to set up another PC so that it
can be the controller. The Remote Desktop feature has been in Windows for some time now but its use in Windows 8 is a not as straight forward.
2Bring your mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen and select “Settings” and “Change PC Settings” in the bottom right hand corner. Select “Users”, “Add a User”.

Then select either a Microsoft account or “Sign in without a Microsoft account” and enter a user name and password.

3Go back to the desktop, bottom right corner, and select “Settings”, “PC Info” and take note of the “Computer Name”.

4Click on “Remote Settings” and make sure the “”Allow remote connections to this computer” radio button is on.

Click on “Select Users…”, “Add” and enter your user name.

Press “OK”, “OK”, and “OK”.
Your Target PC is now ready.
1Just go to the charms screen and type “mstsc”.

2In the window that pops up type in the name of the target PC. You will be prompted for the user name and password you entered above. and “OK”. You will then get a warning window like this. Click on “OK” and your remote session will start.

3To end the remote session, bring your mouse to the middle top of the screen and click on the X. To toggle back and forth between the remote desktop and the local desktop use the <Ctrl><Alt><Pause/Break> (all at once) key combination.

Setting Up the Target PC
1The fist thing is that the Windows sign in feature needs to be turned on and at least one user account needs to be set up. The auto sign in feature can’t be used with the Remote Desktop feature. If you already have to sign in to your PC when windows starts you can skip the following step and go to step 3.2Bring your mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen and select “Settings” and “Change PC Settings” in the bottom right hand corner. Select “Users”, “Add a User”.

How To Set Up the Controlling PC
