How to Enable Task Manager on Windows XP And Windows 7 Computer


Here we will share simple trick to Enable or disable Task Manager on Windows XP and Windows 7 computer. Sometimes task manager gets disabled on your computer accidently or due to any virus. You are unable to access task manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Which can create much inconvenience on your computer. Like You can not close non responding applications on your computer by using task manager.
Although you can read our another post Windows – End Not responding applications without Task Manager but If task manager is disabled on your computer, you will not be able to collect other valuable information provided by  task manager.


  • Go to Start >> Run You can also press Windows key along with R to access required menu.
  • Type regedit in Run. If windows prompt for your permissions to open registry editor, click yes.
  • Now Navigate in registry editor as  HKEY_CURRENT_USER >> Software >> Microsoft >> Windows >> CurrentVersion >> Policies >> System
  • Find DisableTaskManager or DisableTaskMgr (Windows 7) in right hand side panel.
  • Double click on this value. It will open a window as given below.

Change Value data as 0 to enable task manager. But if task manager is already enabled on your computer and if you need to disable task manager you can change this value to 1 to disable task manager.
Finally hit OK. Now press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Now you will be able to access task manager on your computer.
