How to Disable Command Prompt (CMD) on your Windows Computer

You can easily Disable Command Prompt in Windows XP, Windows 7 computer. Command Prompt provides some great and must have features on any windows based computer like you can use CMD to execute batch files, ping remote servers etc. Besides these beneficial features sometimes Command Prompt can also be used by anybody stranger to harm your computer when you are sharing your PC with other users.


To overcome these problems, you need to disable Command Prompt on your computer. So you can follow these simple steps to disable command prompt on your windows computer as given below: -



  • Go to Start >> Run or press Windows key along with R
  • Type regedit in Run and hit enter.
  • Browser as Local Computer Policy >> User configuration >> Administrative Templates >> System
  • You will see an item named Prevent access to the command prompt as shown in below image.

  • Double click on this value. This will open a pop up window.
  • Select Enabled tab from this window to disable command prompt on your windows based computer.
  • Restart your computer. Now command prompt will be disabled on your computer.
  • In this way you can disable command prompt on your Windows XP, Windows 7 or Windows Vista computer to make its more secure.
